I remember clearly his first painting I saw. It was an abstract painting with acrylic or oil ... white with a red thing in the middle. It was pretty abstract. It was a very interesting piece. I saw it down a hallway somewhere at the Ontario College of Art and Design [OCAD]. And I remember the painting standing out. Pretty powerful. It was very interesting abstract work. Pure material. It was a painting that was trying to scream out, "Look at me because I'm made from materials that push the boundaries." The painting had, actually, quite a bit of maturity. And then when I met Steve, he was a young guy. He was probably 18, 19 years old...
